The conference, held at Navan Centre & Fort, brought together tourism businesses, industry experts and key stakeholders to discuss the future of the sector and explore opportunities for sustainable growth, destination development and heritage-led visitor experiences.

Almost 100 tourism and hospitality stakeholders from across the borough gathered at Navan Centre & Fort for Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council's 10th Annual Tourism Conference.

The milestone event, held under the theme 'Our People, Places and Stories', brought together tourism businesses, industry experts and key stakeholders to discuss the future of the sector and explore opportunities for sustainable growth, destination development and heritage-led visitor experiences.

Opening the conference, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Councillor Mary O'Dowd, highlighted the important contribution tourism makes to the local economy and communities throughout the borough.

She said: "Tourism plays a vital role in our local economy and contributes greatly to the vibrancy of our city, towns, villages and rural communities. This conference is an important opportunity for the sector to come together, share ideas and learn from one another.

"As we celebrate the 10th year of this event, it is fitting that we reflect on the people, places and stories that make our borough such a special destination for visitors from near and far."

The annual conference has become a key event in the local tourism calendar, providing businesses and organisations with the opportunity to network, exchange ideas and hear from industry leaders on emerging trends and opportunities within the sector.

Delegates heard from a range of guest speakers who shared insights into successful tourism initiatives and highlighted ways local destinations can continue to enhance visitor experiences. Presentations were delivered by Caitríona O'Connor of Royal Sites of Ireland, who discussed opportunities for heritage tourism, while Adrienne Moffett of Gilford Castle Estate outlined the development of one of the region's notable visitor attractions.

Chris Mallon of the Armagh Road Bowling Experience also addressed attendees, showcasing how unique local experiences can attract visitors and help strengthen the borough's tourism offering.

Participants received an update from Tourism Ireland on current market trends, international promotion and future trade opportunities, providing valuable information for businesses looking to expand their reach and attract new visitors.

BBC Northern Ireland broadcaster Jo Scott compered the event, guiding discussions throughout the day and facilitating engagement among delegates.

Council representatives said the conference continues to serve as an important platform for collaboration and innovation within the tourism and hospitality industry. They added that the event reflects the council's ongoing commitment to supporting tourism development and working closely with businesses and stakeholders to create memorable visitor experiences.

As the conference celebrated its tenth anniversary, organisers said the strong attendance demonstrated the sector's continued enthusiasm for collaboration and its shared ambition to strengthen the borough's reputation as a must-visit destination for local, national and international visitors.
