The restoration of Gilford Castle has been welcomed by local representatives and residents, who highlight its potential benefits for heritage, tourism and the local economy.

The restoration of Gilford Castle has been widely welcomed following the granting of planning permission for the historic landmark, with local representatives and residents highlighting its potential benefits for heritage, tourism and the wider local economy.

The Category B+ listed Victorian Scottish Baronial-style mansion has undergone significant restoration and redevelopment, transforming the long-established building into an exclusive venue for weddings, conferences and events.

Welcoming the development, Councillor Joy Ferguson described the project as an important investment in both the village's heritage and its future prosperity.

She said the restoration was more than preserving a historic building, arguing that it represented confidence in Gilford's potential and could help create new opportunities for local businesses and residents.

"Gilford has a proud history of industry and enterprise, and the castle itself is a reminder of the role investment has played in shaping the village over generations," she said.

Councillor Ferguson added that the project has the potential to act as a catalyst for further regeneration in the area, complementing wider ambitions for the village through the development of the Council's Gilford Place Plan, which is exploring future opportunities for growth and enhancement within the community.

Local resident Kevin Savage also welcomed the news, noting that a substantial investment had been made in restoring the building and returning it to active use.

Commenting on the approval, Mr. Savage said the castle had been transformed into a first-class events facility and expressed hope that the wider community would benefit from the opportunities generated by the development.

Supporters of the project believe the venue could help attract additional visitors to the area while creating demand for local accommodation providers, hospitality businesses and other services. The restoration is also being viewed as an important step in safeguarding one of Gilford's most recognisable and historically significant buildings for future generations.

Gilford Castle has long been a prominent feature of the village landscape, and its restoration marks a new chapter in the building's history. The project follows years of interest in the future of the property and is expected to strengthen Gilford's appeal as a destination for events and tourism.

The granting of planning permission clears the way for the continued development of the site, with many local people hopeful that the investment will not only preserve an important part of the village's heritage but also contribute to economic growth and renewed confidence in the area.
