Kevan Burke, who has been delivering the post in Newtownhamilton for 30 years, has been presented with a new reclining chair on his retirement, with friends and subscribers praising his dedicated service to the community.
After three decades of delivering the post in all kinds of weather around Newtownhamilton, Kevan Burke has decided to take full advantage of a new reclining chair presented to him on his retirement.
A small reception party was held in Tullyvallen Manse in the home of Rev George and Mrs Bell where the presentation was made.
Mr Bell, on behalf of the many subscribers, spoke appreciatively of the various qualities which made Kevan, who resides at Armagh Street in the town, a very popular postman, and of his faithful and dedicated service to the community.
After his years of unbroken service, one of the town’s shop owners, paid a heart heartfelt tribute to the retiring postman.
“Rain, hail, or shine, Kevan has been a constant, reassuring presence in our community. He delivered far more than just letters; he brought smiles , friendly chats, and a true sense of connection to so many doorsteps.
“His daily rounds will be deeply missed, but his hard work has earned him the most relaxing retirement. Thank you Kevan for your service, and wishing you all the best on the road ahead,” she said.
Also wishing Kevan a wonderful retirement, a long-term resident said he was “the best postman we could ask for” adding that “his years of reliable service , friendly smile , and always going the extra mile for our neighbourhood, made him special”.
Mr Burke thanked the subscribers most warmly and reminisced over the changes which he has seen over his years of service.
All his many friends wish him a long and happy retirement, with the opportunity for putting his feet up from time to time.
