The Royal British Legion encourages people to wear their poppy with pride

THE 2026 Poppy Appeal theme is about family.

When someone serves, their family serves too – facing unique challenges and sacrifices alongside their loved one.

The RBL recognises the contribution and sacrifice of Armed Forces families and is there from day one of service and throughout their lives.

When a partner or parent serves, they will often spend months away at a time, missing birthdays, anniversaries and first days at school.

The impact on family life is the top reason for serving personnel considering leaving their job.

The RBL is there to support Armed Forces families during and after service providing guidance during deployment, helping with financial hardship, support after a bereavement, or caring for a loved one in old age.

Key messages on Remembrance

Remembrance is part of our nation’s culture and means so much to so many people. With each tribute planted, someone is remembering a loved one, a family member, a friend or comrade.

Since it was first worn as an act of Remembrance more than 100 years ago, the poppy has become an enduring symbol of support for our Armed Forces and hope for a peaceful future.

The poppy is a symbol of Remembrance and hope

Your poppy supports the Armed Forces community, past and present.

Why it's important to wear a poppy

By wearing a poppy, you’re showing your support and thanks to the Armed Forces community, past and present

Seeing members of the public wearing a poppy in recognition of service and sacrifice is incredibly meaningful for those who serve and their families.

Don’t underestimate the impact that wearing a poppy has for those who serve and their families, it’s a gesture that is never taken for granted.

From risking their lives in war zones, providing support during emergencies and humanitarian disasters, and spending time away from their families, we owe those who serve in the Armed Forces our gratitude.

Wearing a poppy helps to connect society over the Remembrance period and reminds us of our shared history and importance of modern-day service.
