The match between Armagh City Football Club and Ards Football Club was a thrilling display of skill and determination from both teams.

Armagh City and Ards FC played out a 1–1 draw at Holm Park on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in the NIFL Championship. Armagh and Ards played a draw in testing conditions last Saturday with the real winner being the weather as strong swirling wind and heavy rain dominated any attempts to play football. City who came off a 4 defeat run (2 cup and 2 league) still haven't won a league game but this result arrested a poor run of results.

Armagh had the advantage of a strong wind and threatened on several occasions but Ards held firm fashioning several attacks themselves but failed to breech the home defence. City took the lead on the half hour when a well delivered corner from the right was headed in at the far post by central defender Joe Gorman. Immediately on the restart Patrick Cafolla netted from close range after incisive play down the right in the 32nd minute to level the score. Play deteriorated rapidly after this as the wind grew stronger and rain pelted down making the game a lottery as passes went all over the place and half time couldn't come quickly enough.

HT 1-1

The 2nd period saw City against the elements and Ards trying to take advantage as the game became scrappy with the wind catching any high balls and turning them back where they came from and many passes were both over and under hit while players on both sides gamely battled to keep control. Halfway through the game took another turn when City’s Noeen Oladunjoye took the ball just inside his own half and commenced a run towards the goal but was chopped down from behind and awarded a free kick however he stupidly reacted pushing his transgressor and a fracas developed between players from both sides which resulted in referee Stuart Long giving the Ards man a yellow and Noeem a red leaving City to finish with 10 men. Ards smelt blood and pushed to get a winner but Conor Byrne in the home goal rose to the challenge and contrived to pull off a series of saves 3 of which were outstandingly brilliant to deny Ards and give his team a valuable point. The game ended with no further score and honours even with City left wondering what if a full side had been still on the pitch?

Looking back at the game full marks to both sides for partaking in such conditions, they were atrocious and not a great watch for those who braved the elements to support both sides. Rightly, Conor Byrne was awarded Armagh City Man of the Match for his display in goal. Although City have only amassed 6 points through draws the new squad are showing signs of benefit from the coaching they are receiving as the season progresses they are a relatively young squad compared to the rest of the league.

This Saturday City make the trip to Fermanagh to play Ballinamallard Utd.k.o.at Ferney Park is 3.p.m.
