Armagh Robinson Library hosts talk on Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland project

The event, led by Dr Ciarán Wallace and Dr Eamon Darcy, will explore manuscripts digitised and made freely available online through the VRTI project, supported by the Royal Irish Academy's Nowlan Digitisation Grant.
Armagh Robinson Library is set to host a special talk highlighting its involvement in the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland (VRTI) project.
Taking place on Tuesday, October 20, at 7.30pm, the event will be led by Dr Ciarán Wallace, Programme Director for the VRTI, and Dr Eamon Darcy of Maynooth University's Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies.
Entitled Stories, Landscapes and Folklore: Early Investigations of Ireland in Armagh Robinson Library's Collections, the talk will explore manuscripts held by the library that have recently been digitised and made freely available online through the VRTI.
The project, supported by the Royal Irish Academy's Nowlan Digitisation Grant, has seen several historical manuscripts from the library made accessible to a wider audience. They include the Revd William Henry's Natural History of Killesher, Co Fermanagh, Co Sligo and Co Antrim (1739) and The Topographical and Statistical Returns from Various Respondents Sent to Walter Harris and the Physico-Historical Society of Ireland (1738-1750).
Keeper of the Library, the Very Revd Shane Forster, welcomed the collaboration.
He said: "Our Governors and Guardians were delighted to give permission for the relevant manuscripts in Armagh Robinson Library to be included in this project.
"Funded by the Royal Irish Academy, we believe that this has been a successful collaboration between Armagh Robinson Library, Maynooth University, the Royal Irish Academy, Trinity College Dublin and the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, allowing many more people to access and engage with some of the treasures held within our collection."
