The 2026-27 Cathedral Recital Series in Armagh will continue later this month with a performance by the Ven Dr Peter Thompson at St Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral.

The recital will take place on Sunday, October 25 at 4.15pm, with Dr Thompson performing works by Dietrich Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, William Walton and Louis Vierne.

Dr Thompson, who serves as Assistant Organist at the Cathedral, said he was looking forward to presenting a programme showcasing a range of musical styles.

"Choosing repertoire for a recital is always a fun process, balancing varieties of styles and sounds, creating something which will captivate and excite the audience," he said.

He explained that the programme will open with Buxtehude's Praeludium in C, before moving to a set of chorale variations by Bach. The recital will also feature an arrangement of music from Walton's 1955 film Richard III and conclude with works by French composer Louis Vierne, including the celebrated Final from his First Organ Symphony.

Director of Music, Dr Stephen Timpany, said: "As a regular player of the Cathedral's organ, Peter knows all its colours and sounds intimately and his imaginative and varied programme will be a treat for the listener."

The recital will last approximately 40 minutes. Admission is free, with donations invited in support of the Armagh Diocesan Singers. Contributions will be matched by the Cathedral Board in recognition of Dr Thompson's work and the choir's contribution to Armagh's choral tradition.

The next recital in the series will be given by Canon Martin White on Sunday, November 22 at 4.15pm.
