Newry and Armagh MLA Gareth Wilson has welcomed the commencement of the Environmental Improvement Scheme in Markethill.
Mr Wilson said he had supported and lobbied for investment in the town during his time as a local councillor and was pleased to see work now progressing on the project.
Gareth Wilson MLA said:
'I warmly welcome the commencement of the Environmental Improvement Scheme in Markethill. This is a significant investment in the town centre which has the potential to further enhance Markethill as an attractive place to live, work, shop and visit.
During my time as a councillor, I was involved in lobbying for improvements and investment in Markethill, so it is encouraging to see this project continue to move forward and reach this important stage.
The key to the success of this phase of the works will be ensuring close and meaningful engagement with local traders, residents and other stakeholders throughout the construction period. It is vital that every effort is made to minimise disruption and that any concerns are listened to and addressed promptly.
I look forward to seeing the completed scheme and the positive contribution it can make to the future of Markethill.'
