Sorcha McKinney and Cara McGeary, two outstanding sixth-form students from St Patrick's High School, have been named on the prestigious Ulster Schools All-Star Camogie Team for 2026, continuing a proud family tradition of sporting and cultural achievement.

There were double celebrations at St Patrick’s High School recently as two outstanding sixth-form students, Sorcha McKinney and Cara McGeary, were named on the prestigious Ulster Schools All-Star Camogie Team for 2026.

Both girls are proud members of St Joseph’s Madden Camogie Club, making this achievement a wonderful source of pride not only for St Patrick’s, but also for their club, families and wider community. As first cousins, Sorcha and Cara share a rich family tradition of sporting and cultural achievement across Armagh and beyond.

Their mothers, Brenda McGeary (née McCusker) and Donna McKinney (née McCusker), both represented Madden and Armagh with distinction, and it is particularly special to see the next generation continuing that proud tradition.

The All-Star recognition crowns a memorable year for both players. As key members of the St Patrick’s team, Sorcha and Cara helped the school secure the Ulster Schools A Shield, while also playing pivotal roles in Armagh’s All-Ireland Minor B Championship success in 2026. Cara’s performance in the All-Ireland final earned her further recognition as Player of the Match.

The family connection is made even more special by the fact that Cara follows in the footsteps of her sister Eimear, who was also previously honoured with a Schools All-Star award.

Sorcha and Cara’s talents extend well beyond the camogie field. Both have also achieved success in Irish cultural competitions, winning medals at All-Ireland Scór and Fleadh Cheoil events. Their achievements reflect something we value deeply at St Patrick’s: encouraging every young person to discover their talents, develop them with confidence and use them to make a positive contribution to their school and community.

Principal K McKenna said: “We are immensely proud of Sorcha and Cara. Their achievements reflect not only their exceptional talent, but also their commitment, and determination. At St Patrick’s, our vision is for every young person to Belong, Grow and Achieve, and Sorcha and Cara embody that vision wonderfully. They are outstanding ambassadors for their families, their club, their county and our school, and wonderful role models for the younger pupils following in their footsteps.”

Everyone at St Patrick’s High School warmly congratulates Sorcha and Cara on this richly deserved recognition. Their success is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through talent, hard work, commitment and the support of family, school, club and community.
