Kevin first aid champion

St Brigid’s High School is extremely proud of First Year pupil Kevin McKenna, who turned in a brilliant performance to become U13 Boys Champion First Aider in the Ulster Championships held by the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps in Lisanally Youth Centre.

Kevin has been a member of the Order of Malta in Armagh for some time now, but this is his greatest achievement to date.

A son of Gerard and Bridie McKenna, from Edward Street in the city, Kevin was typically modest about his tremendous achievement.

“I didn’t really think that I would win. The competition in my group was fierce and there were a lot of very good contestants,” said Kevin. “But I just did my best and answered the questions the best I could. For the practical floor test, I knew how to do that fairly well as I had practised it many times, so I felt confident about that part.”

Nevertheless, Kevin was extremely nervous as he awaited the result with fingers crossed. When it was announced, he was both delighted and proud that he had brought the trophy to Armagh, a great reward for the months of practice under the expert eyes of Pat McVeigh and Theresa Hughes.

All at St Brigid’s High School would like to offer their heartfelt congratulations to Kevin and wish him well in the All-Ireland Final.
